Dye, age 21, Captain, Company D, 7th Regiment Arkansas Infantry, enlisted July 26, 1861 at Camp Shaver for 12 months, dropped from the rolls May 8, 1862 at the re-organization of the regiment, appointed Captain, Company D, Newton’s Regiment, Arkansas Cavalry,* November 1, 1862, captured October 6, 1863 at Batesville, Independence County, Ark., sent from Little Rock, Ark. to St. Louis, Mo., forwarded to Camp Chase, Ohio, January 31, 1863, transferred to Fort Delaware March 25, 1864, forwarded to Prisoner of War Depot near Sandusky, Ohio January 2, 1865, paroled and transferred to New Orleans for exchange January 9, 1865, arrived Johnson’s Island O., and exchanged at Red River Landing, La., February 26, 1865, admitted CSA General Hospital, Shreveport, La. January 30, returned to duty February 26, paroled at Jacksonport, Arkansas June 5, 1865

* This regiment was subsequently designed 8th Regiment Arkansas Cavalry

His file contains a letter from the Adjutant General’s Office, War Department, and Miss Nettie Bass, 215 W. Houston, Sherman, Texas, dated March 14, 1935
