Re: Rock Island Barracks
In Response To: Rock Island Barracks ()

This soldier was captured at Marietta, Georgia on June 11, 1864 and forwarded to Nashville, to Louisville, and then to Rock Island Prison arriving there on June 24, 1864, 13 days after his capture. I have found a source that states prisoners were transported to Rock Island Prison by railroad through Chicago and then turning west to Rock Island.

Therefore, I am assuming that at the end of the war he left the prison the same way he came, by railroad, for I have also found since my previous post that General Order 109 did provide for the transportation of prisoners after their release. If anyone has information contrary to this I certainly would appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you.
