Re: Union Prisoners from Gettysburg.

The book, Union Casualties at Gettysburg, III: 1360-1365 provides detail on the fate of the Federal prisoners. They arrived in Richmond between 18 July and 6 August, with the enlisted being sent to Belle Isle, and the officers to Libby prison. Transfers accelerated after a prison break from Libby on 9 February 1864. Most apparently were sent to Andersonville and from there additional transfers were subsequently made, to Camp Oglethorpe in Macon, Camp Lawton in Millen, Camp Davidson in Savannah, and other locations. Some may have wound up in other prisons at Salisbury, North Carolina; Charleston, Columbia and Florence, South Carolina; and Danville, Lynchburg and Petersburg in Virginia.
