The Civil War Prisons Message Board

Newspaper the "Crisis" parts online

There were several Northern Democrat newspapers located in Columbus, Ohio during the War. Perhaps one of the better known was the "Crisis" put out by Samuel Medary. Parts of the Crisis dealing with Camp Chase can now or shortly can be viewed at the SCVOhio. Also listed on our site is the complete listings for all of the 1861 prisoners of Camp Chase. There were 434 from what I remember. The SCVOhio site is intended for the serious history students. Many historical documents have come from various places such as the National Archives, Library of Congress, Ohio Historical Society, The Confederate Veteran Magazine, letters, diaries, etc. Many of them have never been online before. One of them the 1907 Register was used to make the tombstones at Camp Chase which were made in Nelson, GA by the Blue Ridge Marble Company. The stones were laid in 1908 and were in perfect order at one time. Our site has a long way to go but hopefully in a few years it will be a great site for history and genealogy.
