How ever did you ever find that information about mailing letters from Confederate Prisons? In my gggrandmother's NARA pension file, the pension agency representing her states her husband "was wounded in the Battle of Wilderness, May 5th, and taken prisoner, since which time she has not heard from him." This pension agency letter was dated 26 Sep 1864. Thanks for all the great information and responses you give!
