I am looking for documents regarding my great grandfather, James Monroe Thomas regarding his POW status as a Confederate solider. I understand he was imprisoned at Harts Island NY on April 10, 1865. Reportedly, he served in the Co. B, 17th Infantry Alabama. Released after taking The Oath of Allegiance to the United States.
