Frederic Waterhouse of the 145th Pennsylvania writes on 24 November 1863 from the Lincoln Hospital in Washington that "Ward no. 20 is exclusively occupied by 'Secesh,' mostly from North Carolina and Tennessee (east)." His letters can be found in the Andre De Coppet Collection in the Manuscripts Collection of Princeton University in New Jersey.
