Re: Camp Chase POW

Unfortunately, there is no information in the records for the last few months of the war. The Virginia series, Howard book noted below, may shed information on this period.

Abraham Hinkle, Private, Company G, 19th Regiment Virginia Cavalry, enlisted April 31, 1863 at Nicholas by Capt. H. D, Ruffner for 3 years, last recorded present with serviceable horse, on the Sept. & Oct., 1864 muster roll, dated October 31, 1864, no further records

Company G, 19th Regiment Virginia Cavalry, Muster Roll for the period Sept. & Oct., 1864, dated Dec. 31, 1864 while stationed near Liberty Mills, Orange County, Virginia

Record of Events

The history of the Valley Campaign is closely identified with the history of Co. "G".
The company was with General Early on the Maryland raid & engaged in all the skirmishes & fights in which the Nineteenth Regt. Va. Cavalry participated.
The company was with the Regt. while the Col. Wm. L. Jackson's Brigade with other Brigades under the command of Major Gen. Lomax wer [sic] operating in Luray Valley.
Captain Wm. L. Justice was badly wounded at Frederick City, Maryland, was brought out & after he had nearly recovered, got a furlough & went to his home through the lines. On his return he was captured & is now a prisoner of war.*

* Captured in Braxton/Brackston County, W. Va. October 7, 1864 and sent to Camp Chase, Nov. 29, 1864. He had received a 45 day furlough from Gen. Hosp., Staunton, Sept. 8, so, I suspect he was not with the regiment when captured.
