Dennis means that he was sent to the military prison at Fort Delaware.

Henry C. KENDALL was enrolled initially in Company F, 1st Connecticut Cavalry. Just before the 1864 campaign season began, all ex-Confederates spread around different companies of the 1st Connecticut Cavalry were consolidated into Company G which was then detached from the regiment and sent west to fight the Native Americans. Company G was sent west on 27 APR 1864. Henry C. KENDALL deserted on 27 MAR 1864 while the unit was still in Maryland.
