Interestingly, my g-g-grandfather was captured at Petersburg on April 2 as well. His name was Jacob A. Moose, and he was with the NC 28th Infantry, Company K. Jacob died at home in Stanly County, NC in July 1865. Cause of death unknown, but I wonder if he caught some disease at the prison. Pure speculation on my part. His death so soon after release prompted the question about transport home.
