Great post! I will need a day to compose an appropriate response to the many questions you have raised. The Chaplain was released as part of "humanitarian" exchange orchestrated by none other than "Beast" Butler of New Orleans fame. The Chaplain's descriptions of a special situation which evolved over the summer of 1864 are pretty accurate.
