Camp Morton Escape

While reviewing the CMSR for my great great grandfather, C. A, Maraman, Co C, 2d KY Inf Reg, I found a card that showed he had been a prisoner at Camp Morton. According to the card, he was captured at Fort Donelson on 16 February, 1862. It also states below that on the Remarks line that he escaped on 1 April, 1862. However, another record shows that he was sent to be exchanged at Vicksburg. Is there any way to find out if he escaped and was recaptured and then later sent for exchange or if he escaped and was not recaptured? The story my dad was told was that my great great grandfather and one of his cousins were both captured and that they escaped, butI have read that only about 35 men escaped who were not recaptured so I am not sure if the story was embellished or if he did indeed manage to not be recaptured. Other records indicate that he was wounded at the second battle of Murfeesboro and was listed as missing and later as missing and a prisoner of war. This information is from his company muster roll and there is not prisoner record. It is also final card in his record, which leads me to believe he never returned to service. Any ideas on how to research this further?
