In Response To: Fort Delaware Staff ()

Gerald:

I am away from my personal archives vacationing with family in South Carolina. I will be back home next week and better able to respond to your query then. But off the top of my head, Lieutenant John G. McConnell was the Post Adjutant reporting to Brigadier General Albin F. Schoepf who took command at the end of April 1863. McConnell came to Fort Delaware in 1862 as a Pennsylvania Volunteer from Pittsburgh. The prison staff and prison operations were organized under Captain George W. Ahl, also a Pennsylvania Volunteer from Pittsburgh. Ahl reported directly into General Schoepf's office.

I would also like to pick up our private correspondence from back in November 2009 concerning your research on a group of Champion Hill POWs who arrived at Fort Delaware in June 1863.
