According to Mauriel Joslyn's THE BIOGRAPHICAL ROSTEROF THE IMMORTAL 600, John Penn Breedlove returned to Tuskegee, Alabama, after the war and engaged in farming and in the mercantile business. He also served as tax assessor and as a state representative. He married twice (sisters) and had eight children. He died in 1901 and is buried in Tuskegee Cemetery.
