Death of Confederate prisoners by disease

The Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion is a rare five volume work that goes into considerable detail (not for the squeamish) about the medical condition of many patients who died from disease as well as battle wounds. Descriptive autopsy results are provided. This record documents the final days of many individual soldiers. Below are some Confederates listed in this work from 1863.

pp. 134-135 Pvt T. L. Langford, Co. D, 55 NC, admitted Nov 23, 1863, chronic diarrhea and scurvy, died Dec 17, 1863;
p. 125 Pvt A.T. Brogdan, Co. E, 47 NC, age 37, admitted Nov 23, 1863, chronic diarrhea and scurvy (which he had had for 6 months), died Jan 7, 1864;
p. 135 Pvt Jacob Ury, Co. H, 57 NC, admitted from camp Dec 23, 1863, chronic diarrhea (had been sick for 2 months), died Jan 10, 1864;
p. 135 Pvt Thomas D. Hare, Co. A, 1 SC, age 36, admitted Nov 23, 1863, chronic diarrhea and scurvy (had typhoid fever 3 months prior), died Jan 11, 1864;
pp. 135-136 Pvt Alexander Stowe, Co. E, 11 NC, age 28, admitted from prisoner's camp Oct 26, 1863, chronic diarrhea, while walking about the ward on 28 Jan 1864, fell, was carried back to bed and found to be dead;
