" On Sept.7,1864 the first 18 detachments left Andersonville by rail, guarded by
detachments from the battalion of the 55th Georgia, and the 1st and 3rd Georgia Reserves.
By the 12th, 7000 of the Andersonville prisoners had reached Charleston, and plans were
devoloped to foreward them to Florance, where a stockade was under construction.
The next day, the 13th, Secretary Seddon telegraphed Gen. Winder to cease sending
prisoners to Charleston, but to foreward as many as possible to Millen, in south central Georgia."

On Sept.17,1864, 700 prisoners left Andersonville for Shermans lines near Atlanta, two days later on the 19th, 1100 more left the stockade to be exchanged at Rough and Ready Georgia.
An additional 300 prison patients died during those same 3 days, leaving fewer than 9000
prisoners inside the palisade and just under 2000 in the hospital.
