On Sept.17,1864, 700 prisoners left Andersonville for Shermans lines near Atlanta, two days later on the 19th, 1100 more left the stockade to be exchanged at Rough and Ready Georgia.
An additional 300 prison patients died during those same 3 days, leaving fewer than 9000
prisoners inside the palisade and just under 2000 in the hospital.
