In Response To: Point Lookout ()

"J. B. Travwick was captured at Fisher’s Gap, near Strasburg. After some delay at Winchester, Harper’s Ferry and Baltimore, I was carried by steamer to Point Lookout , Maryland, arriving there on October 3." He was just ahead of my great uncle Alexander N. Boring, 4th Sgt., Co. A, 18th Georgia, ANV. He was captured October 19, 1864, in the retreat from Cedar Creek. His service record says he was taken at Strasburg. He was first sent to Camp Chase, then to point Lookout. He was paroled near the end of June, 1865. It is interesting that Tavwick was paroled in February, before the war was over. Captain James L. Lemon, my folk's Company Commander, one of the Immortal 600, was also at point Lookout, having been captured at Knoxville in December of 1863. The story of his capture, the events surrounding the "600" and his picture being taken, are at this site: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~allenatk/lemon.html Stan
