Welcome was captured as noted on 10-31-1863 at Wailand Springs, AL, but was released in a few days to return home in Florence, AL. He also fought in the Shiloh Battle. I can't find anymore specifics about the capture other than what was given by the archieves in Washington, DC. He was born in 1834 around Florence, AL. His parents were Jacob and Elizabeth Richardson McGee. They are buried in Lauderdale County, AL. Jacob's father was Joseph McGee who died in Moore County, NC in 1793. The Will was probated in 1794. Welcome died 11-07-1904 in Lauderdale, AL and is buried at the North Carolina Church of Christ Cemetary. Go out the door leading through the gate and he is about 125"straight out into the cemetary. He may have a Civil War tomb by now. Anyway, his second wife, Mary Adeline Clemmons McGee is buried next to him. His first wife was Catherine Hicks (Indian). She died in 1863. This is my Great-grandmother and Welcom is my Great-grandfather. When checking out his background information you will fine that he killed Abe Totten and Rob Hamm (horse thieves) in Lauderdale, AL. They stole a couple of his horses while in the War. Welcome was set free at the trial. I don't know how much information your have, but I have more I do not mind sharing. Let me know.
