One thing you need to remember is that the "winner" wrote the history and no way were they going to make themselves look bad.
Did you read the postings of the De Valls Bluff discussion that were transfered here? You may have noticed that several had some rather strong words about the prisons.
I had several relatives who were in the prisons up north and one that was here in Arkansas. As I said in an earlier posting, the prisons were not a Sunday social by a long ways.
I did grow up hearing "Yankee" said like it was a cuss word even by the most refined folks around. Yankees were hated worse than the plague for all the hardships they brought on the everyday people.
