I act against my usually more prudent judgement in giving out this e-mail address,(as it is not my private posession,but entrusted to me as a loyal employee by a very commendable employer),yet my heart lept at seeing other kindred spirits thirsting for knowledge of this particular sacred spot of earth.Being poor of time and money,I chanced upon the opportunity to "plunder around" Richmond nearly eight years ago,in search of some of the places where my fathers trod in service of their country and birthright.If my memory serves me correctly,I believe I spoke with a Mrs.Stanley whose residence(sic)was very near the place where period maps indicated the situation of Boulewares Farm.My fathers served in the 26th Va.,Wise's Brigade.While camped at "Burton's Farm" and stationed to the works at Chaffins Bluff,the 26th's Chaplain,(none other than our Union Baptist Church's pastor),Wm.E.Wiatt,on July 22,1863 baptised a good number of souls,including one of my fathers,Pvt.Ambrose W.West at Boulewares Wharf.I believe it to be somewhere near the present-day "Kingsland Marina".If a more definite situation can be identified ,then I should like to erect a modest and befitting monument to the truly brave souls who saw the"big picture"and fulfilled their Master's command to complete their firstworks - in spite of the supreme distraction of having their home despoiled by decieved and lawless bretheren.Being an "umteenth"generation fisherman (vocationally displaced)from Gloucester Co.,Va.,presently employed as a mate on coastwise tugs,and away from home over half the year,it has seemingly become more difficult to chance upon any more free time to "plunder around".Perhaps a more discreet and effective line of communicating/sharing information on the subject would be via my cell phone until I am more ably equipped with an e-mail address and computer of my own.My home phone is 804-684-5715 and my cell is 804-815-2015.Thank you all and Godspeed -JMW,sr.
