According to Lonnie Speer's "Portals to Hell: Military Prisons of the Civil War" (Stackpole Books, 1997), Major Thomas Pratt TURNER made his way to Canada undetected after the collapse of the Confederate government, and remained there for a number of years. Speer doesn't give the date of his return, merely stating that after the political climate cooled down, Turner quietly returned to Memphis, Tennessee to live, apparently unmolested by Federal authorities.
