I am wondering if Gauley was imprisoned at Alton, why would they send him to Camp Douglas? It is possible for that to happen I know, but the prison at Alton had a large capacity. On the other hand the C&A (Chicago and Alton RR) ran from ALton to Chicago as the name suggests through SPringfield and Bloomington so it would be easy to transfer prisoners by that route. Just a thot.
