Thanks for your help. Hope you can find those notes. Gauley, the prisoner ( and half bro or cousin of Robert) was exchanged from Camp Douglas and left by train on March 31, 1863. He was admitted to Petersburg, Va. hosptial on the day he arrived at City Point April 6 and after 2 weeks was dismissed and furloughed on April 21.
Frank Campo had indicated that there were no Robert McKees as guards at Camp Douglas, so maybe you are right about the provost or garrison duty. Have you found a Robert McKee in the Illinois 120th? Could forces from Ohio have been involved in the battle at Murfreesboro, and someone from one of heir regiments been the contact? Just wondering out loud. I appreciate your help.
