McCook was from Ohio he was the right wing at Murfreesboro.The Army of the Cumberland had just been assumed by Gen. Rosecrans.They faced the Confederate Left Hardee's Corp.and not well I may add as the right collasped.I have an order of battle somewhere.I'll check. There was skirmishing several days as they advanced south from Nashville,Mill Creek Camp, read this as Col.Dodge was in McCook's Corps.My GGGrandfather was with Sheridan and suffered the brunt of McCook's collapes. Check Col.J.B.Dodge ,What I saw at Stones River, parts 1-2 I believe starts Dec.25-31.If he, the confederate, was captured at this point most likely by Cavalry.When at Camp Douglas his kin made the gesture then that person Federal was there as a parolee or as a guard.Which would indicated an Illinois regiment.Enlisted men not on parole would of been with their regiment at Mufreesboro or in the case of officers still held by confederates till May of 1863.
