Hi Hugh:

I sent off to the National Archives for whatever info they had. They sent very little. There were only 2 cards. I may be mistaken as to he was exchanged, but on reading a testimony of a soldier that was with them I got the impression they were exchanged together in early 1865.
There is little history of the 1st Regiment Tn Cav that I can find. They were at least 3 different units. The rosters from Camp Morton only said he was captured near Staunton Va on June 5, 1864. One of my relatives, I have verified, died there soon after. His name was Marcus Cook and it shows in their records. The Camp Morton records have a blank as to what his final disposition was.
My relative that was with him said in his testimony that they returned to their unit, after being exchanged, in Joe Johnston's army in time for the surrender near Durham, NC. They were put on a train for Knoxville, Tn, robbed when they got there and had to walk home to Claiborne Co Tn. 3 of the brothers somehow met up there and walked home.
I have just been trying to get his full name. This would help greatly.

Thanks,

Rob
