Received my copy of the recent publication of the Whittle journal, titled THE VOYAGE OF THE CSS SHENANDOAH, in the mail yesterday, and have already found so much additional data on CSN personnel, for which I am very grateful to the editors. Their copious notes also show that they have done much research on their subject.
They have also confirmed my past statement that no one was ever appointed as a Chaplain in the Confederate States Navy, despite there being a position for such a rank within the CSN. Sunday services aboard CS vessels were either conducted by the commander of the vessel or some other qualified person.
