A focus on Navy matters during the War in Norway

Howdy, folks !

Last week the 3rd largest newspaper in Norway did start an article serie on Norwegians that have recieved the Medal of Honor from it`s beginning.

The first chapter did infact envolve 6 Norwegians that did receive this medal during the CW/WBTS.

Of these 6 men, 4 did receive their medals serving the US Navy.

The most famous is Peter Williams, the hero of USS Monitor, during the battle at Hampton Roads.

The latter 3 are more unknown, but they did receive their medals after the battle at Mobile Bay on the 5th of Aug,1864.

ROBERT BROWN,USS Richmond
WILLIAM PHINNEY,USS Lackawanna
HENRY JOHNSON,USS Metacome

I did send the journalist a note that there was Norwegians serving on the CSS Tennessee and on CSS Virginia, but as "usual", no response.. .

( We are greateful up here for Terrys monumental work on the Navies. Thanks,my friend. If you didn`t have these men in in your log, I may have contributed a little (I hope))

For information, a Norwegian are amoung the 19 that have recieved the Medal of Honor twice up until this day. His name is LOUIS WILLIAMS,born Ludwig Andreas Olsen in Oslo,1845. The did earn these on the USS Lackawanna in 1883 and 1884. Recived both medals on the 18th Oct 1884.
