The Civil War Navies Message Board

Re: John Williams, CSS Shenandoah.

Don, thank you for the contact details. However, I was, at one time, a member of the ACWRTA, but I found that, instead of researching the Civil War connections with Australia, and the vast amount of research material so readily available in their own back yard, the vast majority of its members would prefer to research and discuss the subjects that are constantly rehashed in numerous books, articles, etc., such as the battle of Gettysburg. Very few of its members concentrate on the Australian connection with the Civil War, mainly relating to the visit of the CSS SHENANDOAH, etc. I believe that I have done a lot more research on the personnel of the CSS SHENANDOAH than most, if not all, of the other members of the ACWRTA. As a matter of fact, I have only recently located the gravesites of two more personnel of the CS Navy, in Australia, one of whom was carpenter on the CSS SHENANDOAH. It is a sad fact that most of the members seem to be disinterested in these obscure aspects.
