Re: William Marvel's CSS ALABAMA crew list.

Thank you for clarifying the position I have always held, that Rigby was not SOLELY responsible for the data on the crew members, and that it was a combination of a number of sources. He originally tried to claim that it was all his own work, and I have his letters to me, dated in 2001, to show these statements, yet it was so obvious, to anyone who cared to examine the credits properly, that most of the data in the roster itself was freely available in numerous other sources.
I agree that he was responsible for SOME research on the nativities and deaths of SOME of these sailors, but the vast majority of the data (in the roster) can be found in published sources such as the Sinclair and Semmes accounts, as well as the volume on Fullam, the ALABAMA CLAIMS volumes (published in 1872), etc.
You yourself have the muster roll showing a large number of names of the enlisted personnel, which also includes dates of enlistment and other data. Data on almost all the officers is also freely available in numerous published sources, so the credit should not be given solely to one particular individual.
I would also like to point out that as I continue obtaining copies of original documentation on the sailors, I am disturbed to find that numerous errors have been perpetuated about some, if not all of these sailors (e.g. Yonge, Brooks, Godwin, Yeoman, etc.), and I will gladly provide details, and the evidence, to anyone who is interested.
