Sirs, I am working on a series of paintings depicting CW Ironclads as they appeared during their combat careers. I've a question concerning the CSS Arkansas: I've read that there was not enough railroad bars to armour the entire ship, that the center portion of the sides were not ordinary rail bars , but "built on" .There was no other details of this. Does anyone know or guess as to what this might mean? I would like to depict the differences on the sides of this vessel. Thanks in advance.
