Re: George Harwood, not Horwood, CSS ALABAMA.

Yesterday, I received in the mail, the death certificate of George Harwood (both entries in the certificate clearly show it as Harwood, and certainly not Horwood - anyone who sees it as Horwood needs to have their eyesight tested!), and there are two clues in the death cert, when taken in conjunction with the statement of a Liverpool, England detective, dated January, 1866, and shown in one of the volumes of the Alabama Claims proceedings, proves beyond a doubt that this was the same George Harwood who served on the CSS ALABAMA and the CSS SHENANDOAH.
Maurice Rigby had stated that all three persons of this name (whom he had researched) had gone to their graves with no mention of service on the ALABAMA, but the proof is in the pudding, and the clues are conclusive. [See his posting dated July 25, 2004 at 11.25 a.m. at this same message board.]
Additionally, I should add that through the death certificate, another error has been located at Rigby's article on the crew members. George Harwood's death certificate shows his age, at the time of his death in 1888, as being 57, yet Rigby indicates incorrectly that he was born in 1817. Shows how reliable his data and research are.
Harwood is listed as being buried at St. James Cemetery under the incorrect surname of Howard, and his grave site is stated to have no headstone.
