Does anybody know which Tennessee troops that in December of 1861 Stephen Mallory wrote to General Polk at Columbus,Ky. requested their furlough to build assist in construction of gunboats at Memphis,Tn. according to Jack D Coombe's book Thunder Along The Mississippi, The river Battles that Split The Confederacy? How often were CSA regiments used to build and flesh out crews for these gunboats?
