The CSS Nashville (1,221 tons)the first ship commissioned by the CSA , the first to fly CS colors in international waters was built in 1853 as a passenger ship and mail carrier.
The single stack sidewheeler renamed Rattlesnake and streamlined as a blockade runner was sunk off Ft McAllister 18 Feb 1863 by the ironclad USS Montauk.
The Georgia Historic Preservation Division got a grant from NPS to do a survey of the Nashville and 9 miles of the Ogeechee River.
