Re: CIvillian boats Converted into Gunboats!

Gil, some years ago I purchased a copy of a photograph, from the USAMHI, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, which was indicated as being the USS MORSE, shown on the Pamunkey River, Virginia. It is the same type of vessel in that category, a former New York ferry, but I have seen other published copies of the image (from other sources) indicated as being another vessel in that class, so I am unsure of how correct the caption from the USAMHI is. However, it is in the same class, so, even if it is not the USS MORSE, it would be a somewhat similar image of what the MORSE would have looked like.
The photographs of Civil War Navy vessels are a very interesting topic for study, as there are sometimes so many errors in captions, in publications, etc. Sadly, no one has taken up this study full time.
