Terry,

Your letters to me speak of Mars and your wish for that information. John Collier wrote to me about Mars, and Elizabeth Scott-Whipkey mentioned it also. You have a letter mentioning your name, clearly there is something in it for me to mention Mars and your name. As to the remark "might have come from me", I was appealing to your own similar experience Terry, having once gone down this road yourself with the North and South magazine.

I have never stated that the full roster in Marvel's book is mine, but have fought for the information on the crewmen he included in it as being mine. I have given you the names of those men that I researched, and which you now give credit to Marvel and Chris Old. I have always stated and will do so, that I have been researching, the officers and crew of the Alabama, and it has been a 15 year study. The birth, marriage and death of these men, I have researched. If I find a relative I write to them for information, if they don't have it I do it myself with the information I have available on them. Your stretching my words Terry and making something out of it that isn't there. Your reading my words and getting something else. Take the point of the Queen I mentioned. I didn't mean that Brooks received it from the queen of England, I meant it as an example that he had prior notice of his appointment. Are you telling me he just turned up at the ship and they made him a Chief Engineer? My sources for this article are Ms Betty Ann Brooks for all the information, Mr Marmelstein for additional information, to name just a few. If the allotment papers tells me John Emery left his money to his mother Ann, I follow it up. If the crew list for the Bahama tells me he came from Liverpool, I follow it up. If a newspaper article tells me Samuel Henry was born in Scotland in 1834, the census has it for 1843, and the birth, marriage and death's has him dying in 1919, its because I followed the original report up. If a well known book tells me that Low was born in Scotland, but the early census and the birth certificate from his sister, tells me different, its because I've taken the trouble to follow it up. What are you reading from my comments Terry that isn't there.

As to the crewmen in books written between the 1950's-80's, where does it say Caren, Horwood, etc died in Liverpool. Where does it say Henry appeared in the Liverpool Echo for 1912. Where does it say Appleby was born in New Brunswick, when there are equally enough men of the same name in Yorkshire. Where does it say that Mars was not his true name.

I'll give you the one of Yonge's parents Terry, mainly cause it's an unusual name anyway, and you can order the films from them. You would have found it anyway in the search engine, as his relative left it on the site. I doubt if you will find the death of Legris in the search engine. My records come from another source, and you are on dangerous ground Terry if you looked at my last postings on the crew, and continue to do so. My concern and worry is that one only needs to read my message to get the same information from another source.

That alternative site Terry I copied Godwin on July 23 was, http://home.ozconnect.net/tfoen/csnindex.htm, the same site your now telling me to look to. The same site that tells me Redden was on the Alabama late into 1862, when in fact he was aboard the 290, and had journeyed back on the Bahama to sign an affidavit in Liverpool in September 1862. He cannot be in two places. The same site that mentions the Liverpool Echo for 1912 which I had found. God only knows how many more errors you have. Have you placed a caution on this site Terry?

I'm clearly pushing against the tide here Terry. You mentioned my newspaper article on Henry, and you included information on Godwin I had on the web. And not only do you continue to give credit to people who didn't find the information I had orignally found and researched, but I learn that you have in the past monitored my messages on the web. I shall think very carefully next time I leave something. I think that ball was rolling long before I started it.

Regards, Terry.
