Doyle, I note the messages, at the ARKANSAS CIVIL WAR MESSAGE BOARD, from Tom Ezell, relating to the accounts of the blowing up of the gunboat at Little Rock, September, 1863, which now seems to create further confusion about the CSS PONTCHARTRAIN. Two of these accounts indicate that the vessel that was blown up was an ironclad, yet none of the entries, in DANFS, the Silverstone volume, or the ships' data included in ORN, Series 2, volume 1, make any mention that the PONTCHARTRAIN was an ironclad. Could the vessel have been in the process of being converted to an ironclad, while at Little Rock? If so, then this is an entirely new, hitherto unknown aspect of the vessel. This seems to get more and more mysterious, as more information comes to light.
