Hi all, this is my first post in this forum. I've started studying the Union and Confederate naval vessels which participated in the Siege of Petersburg on the James and Appomattox rivers. I'm currently creating unit pages for each vessel for my Siege of Petersburg site http://www.beyondthecrater.com

Those ship pages will begin appearing in April 2019.

Anyway, enough about me. While doing this research, I found that Volumes 1 and 2 of Heyl's Early American Steamers are available at HathiTrust in their entirety: https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/000773667

For anyone who doesn't know, there are dozens if not more steamers covered in those volumes which ultimately participated in Civil War operations. And Heyl drew pictures of each and every ship he covers.
