The Steamboat "Autauga" & Union POWs

There is a monument located at the Prattville Memory Gardens Cemetery on AL St. Hwy 14 in Autauga County, AL which reads;

"This Memorial Is Dedicated To Union Soldiers Whose Names Are Known Only To God, Who Died As Prisoners-Of-War During The Civil War, And Are Entombed On The Sunken Steamboat Autauga In The Alabama River."

Art Green responded with the following information;

"From "Directory of River Packets in the Mobile-Alabama- Warrior-Tombigbee River Trades (1818 -1932)" by Bert Neville. The Autauga is shown as a Confederate Vessel that sunk at Autauga Landing, Alabama River in 1865. No further information."

If anyone has other information regarding the Steamboat Autauga or any of the crew and/or the Union POWs, please contact me via email or respond to this message.
