Lieut Whittles CSN jacket is at the Museum of the confederacy, I assume with its buttons.
At Melbourne Whittle complained in his journal of people touring the Shenandoah some of which were stealing the Jacket buttons as souvenirs.
Knowing this how is it known that the buttons at aution were from one of Whittle's CSN Jackets?
How did the buttons at auction survive being that one jacket is on display?
It is possible that the buttons Whittle complained were stolen were not his own. I assumed they were. I am very curious as to the history of the buttons.
