Gunboat Conspiracy

While researching for another article I'm writing, I came across several entries in the Naval OR's in 1864 about a conspiracy to take over five (I think) gunboats at the Cairo naval station.

The original letter is an intercept dated from Benton, Illinois, to someone in the south. Code names are used in the letter, so no given names are known. It discusses the plan and inclusion of a number of crews prepared to take over their boats and fight for the Southern cause.

I haven't been able to find anything else about this as the entries just disappear.

Does anyone have any information about this. When I'm near my files later tonight I can give a few more details.

Thanks.
