Note to anyone interested in searching for Civil War naval wrecks. I have worked with the Navy Historical Center's Underwater Archaeology Branch for a number of years... I would recommend if you intended to investigate any possible site of a Civil War vessel you best get the proper permits from the NHC-UAB.

I established a non-profit organization five years ago. Our goal is to identify and gain protection of Civil War vessels that have been lost. Our organization works directly with the Natioanl Park Service, Dept. of the Interior, State Historical Preservation Officers, and the NHC-UAB.

There have been a number of sites that have been corrupted by individuals that seek to steal artifacts from the sites. We assist in policing these sites and assist the NHC-UAB in identifying illegal activity at vessel sites.

If you wish to investigate sites you need to begin by gathering the correct permits from the NHC-UAB.
