Last CSS Hunley Crew Identity

Today being a very memorable day in relation to the naval history of the Civil War, I was compelled to re-read some old material on the subject of the CSS Hunley.

I was reading an old news paper interview or article with or by W. A. Alexander the contracted builder of the submarine (written July 6, 1907, in the Mobile Daily Herald). The condition of the paper is very hard to read but I found this interesting passage.

He states that Lt. Dixon wrote him (after he left the project to go back to Mobile, Ala.) that TWO men (volunteers) from the "German Artillery" were recruited to replace Mr. Alexander.

I have read the popular crew list that state that a Cpl. C.F. Carlson was from the "German Artillery". I have verified this, that he was in Company A of the "German Artillery. I cannot find another crew member that has been identified as being from the "German Artillery", maybe someone out there already has.

The last Hunley crew lists I've read show an "unknown" Miller and White. There was a private James Miller in Company A of the "German Artillery". There were also three Millers in the "German Light Artillery", another South Carolina unit, but I do not believe they would have recruited from another unit (I would think that it was easier to recruit from a single group of men that knew each other). I did not find a muster roll of the "German Artillery" with a White listed.

Any ideas?
