I have just a acquired a nice excavated 9 inch Federal Navy Dahlgren Ball from a reputable dealer.It features a Brass Water Cap Fuse. The ball has never been cleaned or preserved. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to do this?I have read that electroysis is the way to go,but I don't feel confident in doing this. I thought about soaking in CLR,followed by brushing with a soft brass brush.I would follow with flat poly spray.I have also heard about using tinted Briwax,but that sounds messy.Any help with this would be much appreciated.
