National Archives Confederate Archives holds in Record Group 45 in Subject File E (Engineering, 2 in.) of the Naval Records Collection, some records relating to engines, boilers, auxiliary machinery, and propellers. Most of the material consists of vouchers for purchases of and work on engines.

In Subject File A (Naval Ships, 3 ft.). More that half of the material is in file AC (Construction). The records included paymasters' vouchers, statements of paymasters' accounts, recapitulations of payrolls. Ship plans are available for a number of vessels.
