Following publication of 'Circle of Fire-The Story of the USS Susquehanna in the War of the Rebellion' I have begun research on Captain Percival Drayton, Farragut's fleet-captain on the Hartford. In mid-1863 he was Superintendent of Ordnance at New York Navy Yard and I would be grateful if anyone could let me know what this role encompassed and the type of duties and tasks he would have been responsible for.
Best wishs
