Calvin,

CS Navy officers were not to wear sashes of any kind. Petty officers were also not to wear them.

Boatswain's, gunners, sailmakers, and carpenters wore uniform coats similar to the officers (with skirts), but with three buttons around each cuff, and a lace loop on the collar. Petty Officers including Boatswain's Mates, Carpenter's Mates, Sailmakers' Mates, Ship's Stewards, and ship's cooks, were to wear the same uniform as the firemen, seamen, coal heavers, landsmen, and boys, etc., but with a "a foul anchor embroidered in black silk above the elbow in front of the right sleeve of their grey jackets."

This marking was to be no longer than three inches. The same insignia was to be embroidered in blue on the right sleeves of their white summer frocks. All other petty officers, including Master at arms, schoolmaster, ship's corporal, armorer, cooper, squadron commander's coxswain, quartermaster, coxswain, captains of the forecastle, maintop, foretop, afterguard, hold, and mizzentop, first class fireman, painter, master of band, armorer's mate, cabin cook, ward room cooks were to wear the same device on their left sleeves.
