thanks for your post. Don't think (?) Rob Christopher (he of USS Arizona Civil War Gunboat Foundation fame) would mind me telling at this point, but Rob, his wife Jennifer, and moi likely discovered the hulk of the USS Petrel near Yazoo City this past June.

We used an electronic sonar-imaging device interfaced with microcomputer setup (Rob has used this for his work with the USS Arizona in Louisiana) and located a subsurface image which matches the available info on the Petrel (!!!!!).

Hope to get some archaeo/diver types to confirm same, preferably during colder weather when the gators and cottonmouths are not active (both were present in the lake when we were there).
