I don't know where you're training, O.B, at VMI there is a text of 1861 titled Seacoast Fortifications by J. Gross Barnard that has scads of info that would make your paper read like you know what your writing about because you do. I read this little gem last year through Interlibrary Loan. Lt. Gen. Barnard was titled Chief Engineer of the Army of the Potomac. That title sells the fellow a bit short, his input during the war period covered the area in total. He was the designer of the attack by Farragut on the lower Mississipi in early 1862. He had done work prior to the war on the structures to be attacked.
