My collection of resources lean toward the Spanish River as the resting spot of the Huntsville and Tuscaloosa, a small river that connects upper Mobile Bay to the Mobile River below where the Tombigbee River meets the Alabama River.
Since these were non-powered Ironclads (floating batteries) and had to be towed or pushed I tend to believe these resources. The Confederates had to abandon the area quickly and I have not read of any Confederate ships being blown up. These were reported scuttled. If they have not been salvaged then they should be in good shape. The area is very marshy and swampy and unlike the CSS Arkansas and others that are under tons of earth, due to the natural actions of river's changing direction, these may be in soft silt or grassy marsh.
