Re: civil war steamers and gun boats.

This is in william a. howard's report on the battle of south mills april 19th 1862.The website you gave me has the picture of the massasoit but is saids, USS Massasoit, a 1173-ton Sassacus class "double-ender" steam gunboat built at Boston, Massachusetts, was first commissioned in March 1864.Was there more than one massasoit because william a. howard states in his report he dispatched by orders the steamers virginia, ocean wave, massasoit, and the phoenix down the river to bring up the troops, which was done about daylight. That was the morning of april 18th 1862.The northerner and the guide were steamers. Thanks for your help.
